My name is Daniel and I grew up in Vienna (Floridsdorf). As a kid I loved interviewing people with my cassette recorder and 'hacking' my Nokia 3210 at the same time. In hindsight, pretty much everything that followed was already laid out in those two habits. These days I work as a software developer and freelance journalist, and I'm still genuinely into both.
The path was anything but straight. Tourism school instead of engineering high school, because maths and I never quite got along. Then a bachelor's in journalism, a technical master's in Digital Media Technologies, a tech desk, a short detour through content marketing and, past thirty, a coding bootcamp that made the switch into development possible.
Away from the screen I'm usually on the bike, in a kitchen, at a concert or out with our son. I like listening to people, I try pretty much everything once, and I often stay longer than reasonable.
